NVCT Kayak Trip Policies

  • Health Advisory: Trips require moderate but prolonged physical exertion. Participants must be able to paddle a boat almost continuously for 2 1/2 hours in hot and humid weather, sometimes through mild waves or against the current. All participants are responsible for assessing their physical condition prior to registering.
  • Our kayak trips are open to all participants age 16 and older.
  • You may bring your own boat if you wish, but because our costs (including insurance) remain the same, we are not able to offer a reduced fee.
  • The trip fee is $30 per person, and includes boat rental, equipment rental (paddle, PFD), kayak safety instruction, and naturalist instruction. Fees go to cover NVCT's program costs such as trip supplies, equipment maintenence, and insurance. Fees can be paid by check at the beginning of the trip.
  • A minimum of 8 participants are needed for a trip to go out.
  • In the event of a weather-related cancellation, participants will be contacted by e-mail and phone at least 1 hour prior to start time, and announcements will be on this website and on the NVCT outdoor hotline: 703-354-5093 x30.
  • Registrations are only final upon confirmation from NVCT. Sign-ups close at 4pm the day before the trip, and walk-ups the day of the trip are not guaranteed a seat. The best way to reserve your seat is to sign up at meetup.com!
