Advocating for the Land
NVCT and each person who supports land conservation can be an advocate for the land. That means being informed on major policy and environmental issues, and helping others understand the significance of land protection.
NVCT and other land trust advocates meet with members of the Virginia General Assembly, with our elected federal representatives, and with local officials throughout the region to explain the importance of supporting land conservation.
Most recently, NVCT has been involved in advocating for funding for state and federal initiatives that affect our service area, maintaining the federal income tax deduction for conservation contributions, continued support for Virginia’s very effective land preservation tax credit, and ongoing commitment to land conservation.
We work with the Land Trust Alliance and with our Virginia land trusts to bring these important issues to the attention of decision-makers. We hope you will also make your voice heard and advocate for the land.
