If you are reading this, you are most likely a landowner in Texas who is concerned about the future of your land. Perhaps you have a farm or ranch that has been in your family for generations, or maybe you recently purchased your second home in an idyllic rural area. Whatever your situation, many Texas landowners face the same dilemma: how do you ensure that the land you love looks the way that it does forever?

TLC works with landowners like you who have a passion for their land and who want to find a way to ensure that its integrity and natural condition is preserved forever. Using a tool called a conservation easement, we can help you protect your land for the benefit of your future generations.

A conservation easement is a legal agreement between you, the property owner, and a qualified conservation organization (often a “land trust”) or public agency, such as TLC. When entering into this kind of legal agreement, the owner voluntarily agrees to restrict the type and amount of development that may take place on his/her property.

Great Blue Heron Circle

While NVCT values gifts of any size, we recognize our special donors who pledge $1,000 or more each year by designating them into our Great Blue Heron Circle. Named after the famed residents of one of our signature conservation successes, Great Blue Herons receive invitations to exclusive NVCT events and are recognized in our annual report. However, the true value of your Great Blue Heron membership is your help in ensuring healthier Northern Virginia communities for all time.

Combined Federal Campaign

You can give through the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area/Northern Virginia. The CFC is the annual workplace giving opportunity for employees in the federal workplace to support thousands of participating local, national, and international charities. The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) is a participant in this year’s campaign with a designation code of 61757.

Gifts of Stock

You can support our work by making a gift of stocks, mutual funds, and bonds. If you’ve held your stock for more than one year, you can receive significant financial benefits. Donating appreciated stock means that you could avoid paying capital gains taxes. Be sure to consult with a qualified tax professional. Please contact us for specific instructions for transferring your securities.

Gifts & Estate Planning

Bequests, gifts made to NVCT through your will, are a great way to achieve your philanthropic goals while making a lasting impact on the places you value. Your attorney or financial planner can help you select which arrangements are best suited for your individual situation and goals.  NVCT welcomes the opportunity to thank you publicly but will respectfully honor requests for anonymity.  Making a commitment to NVCT through your future gift planning is a meaningful way to leave a lasting legacy of conservation in Northern Virginia.

Matching Gifts

In many cases, your gift can be enhanced by matching funds from companies and foundations. Check with your company’s human resource office for more information.
