Kurt is the co-founder and president of the Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation, an organization focused on nature, culture, and community at lower Four Mile Run in Alexandria and Arlington, and an independent researcher/ecologist. He is an active Tree Steward, a former member of Alexandria’s Environmental Policy Commission, and a leadership team member of NoVA Outside, where he co-chairs the annual Student Environmental Action Showcase. Kurt holds a master’s degree in environmental science and policy from George Mason University,
where his thesis and publications focused on ecosystem function in natural and mitigation wetlands. A southern California native, Kurt lives in Alexandria with his wife and two high-school-age children. He joined the NVCT board in 2019.
