About the event
Join local naturalists Sevim Kalyoncu and Mark Khosravi as well as our good friends from the Clifton Betterment Association on a short, informative hike along the flood plain trail.
About the leaders:
Sevim Kalyoncu is an environmental educator with a passion for helping children and families learn about and connect with nature. She privately leads educational nature hikes, teaches outdoor classes incorporating survival skills, and runs women’s camping retreats. She currently teaches nature classes for private schools and homeschool groups and previously led Meaningful Watershed Education Experiences (MWEEs) with Fairfax County Park Authority. In addition to teaching, she serves as the executive director of Green Muslims, a nonprofit organization aimed at guiding American Muslims towards environmental stewardship.
Mark Khosravi is a 25+ year veteran science teacher for Fairfax County, teaching AP Environmental Science, Biology and Geosystems. Mark does have reptiles in his classroom and co-hosts a herpetology club for his students. In addition, he was a park naturalist for Fairfax County Parks at Walney Nature Center, and is a Master Naturalist. He has been a martial arts instructor, and competed in competitions. He is an instructor for NWCOA (National Wildlife Control Operators Association)'s Venomous Snake Handling course for wildlife control operators and is an approved instructor for the AES Venomous Snake Safety certification course. He is a licensed Wildlife Control Operator in VA and the US Virgin Islands. Mark lives in Clifton, and can respond to calls almost anywhere in NoVA, but focuses on Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria. Along with Bonnie Keller he manages a humane animal removal service K2C Wildlife Encounters.
