David South provides clean energy and sustainability advisory services to private and public clients thru South Ventures, LLC. He also writes a bimonthly column on climate topics in the Wiley Climate & Energy Journal. During his professional career David lived multiple times in NOVA—Mount Vernon, Fairfax Station and now Dumfries.
David joined South Ventures after more than 45 years of government applied research and private sector advisory services on technology, market, strategic, policy and regulatory matters related to energy and environmental technologies and climate change. He is widely recognized for his work on: emissions and renewable energy credit (REC) trading; monetization/trading of clean air, greenhouse gas, environmental and energy credits; multi-pollutant control and mitigation strategies; quantification and monetization of avoided (displaced) emissions; and natural capital and nature-based climate solutions.
Besides providing advisory services, David is also a member of the Cleantech Leaders Roundtable (CLTR), a board member and Director of the Program Committee for Cleantech Leaders Climate Forum (CLCF), on the editorial board of the Wiley Climate & Energy Journal, and leads the Trails Committee at Potomac Shores. Before relocating to NOVA in 2021, David was on the Board of the Delta Institute and served on its Governance and Communications Committees, on the Board of the Friends of the Forest Preserve (FOTFP) and was on the Land/Conservation Committee of The Nature Conservancy of Illinois.
