Dr. Carolyn Finney

Bio

Carolyn Finney was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. Finney studied gender and international development at Western Washington University, then acquired a PhD in Cultural Geography from Clark University. Dr. Carolyn Finney has shared her insight into the relationship between race and nature through multiple platforms and media forms. Her first book, "Black Faces, White Spaces: Reimagining the Relationship of African Americans to the Great Outdoors." was published in 2014 and details the historical underrepresentation of black people in outdoor spaces and the causes of that struggle.
