A River Buffer in the City of Fredericksburg Protects Downstream Communities

The Trust holds one conservation easement in the City of Fredericksburg, a nearly 3-acre parcel donated by ExxonMobil on the Rappahannock River. By permanently preserving scenic tree canopy and providing a buffer along the river, this conservation easement helps to prevent harmful pollutants from reaching the river, and ultimately, the drinking water of neighboring communities. This connection to water quality is a significant benefit of land conservation. In each of these cities as well as across the region, the Trust welcomes the opportunity to speak with landowners about protecting important lands and to connect more fully with the community.
