Accotink Creek:
A Valuable At-Risk Forest
We are mobilizing to help solve an urgent issue: a set of forested properties bordering Accotink Creek in Fairfax County are up for auction placing it under threat of being lost to speculative development interests.
This valuable at-risk forest hosts a vital segment of the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail protects and buffers the waters of Accotink Creek, and connects a glaring gap in highly used public parklands. Even if you rarely take walks amongst the trees, your life is significantly impacted by the forest around you.
Simply put, this is a crucial resource for our community that should never be developed and cannot fall into the wrong hands.
A small family foundation owned these 7 acres of intact forest for decades but sadly was unable to maintain ownership. The foundation intended to utilize the land for youth engagement and recreational activities that never came to fruition and, now, is set to be sold to the highest bidder.

NVCT remains determined and focused on acquiring these 7 acres. This acquisition would connect heavily used public parklands that are familiar to countless outdoor enthusiasts who use the Gerry Connolly Cross Country Trail every day.
