George Washington Carver
Bio
George Washington Carver was an American agricultural scientist who is heralded for his work promoting alternative crops to cotton and preventive measures to soil depletion and is amongst the most prominent African American scientists of the 20th century. He is also noteworthy in his advocacy as a conservationist, encouraging sustainable farming practices, education outside the classroom, and improvements to the livelihoods and economic security of poor African American farmers in the South. Carver's work was instrumental to drawing the importance of having agricultural practice intertwined with an understanding of ecology.
