NVCT is proud to announce the protection of a 20-acre parcel of upland and bottomland forestry in Prince William County, marking our 130th conservation easement. Located three miles south of Manassas, and slated to become a future county park, the open grass clearings, wetlands, and open water include 14,000 feet of shoreline on the Occoquan River, which drains to the Occoquan Reservoir. Our region's primary source of drinking water.
The land stands visible from the Occoquan River, a well-patronized recreational boating area, and public hiking trails of nearby park users.
Additionally, the land provides woodland, wetland, and aquatic species with suitable habitats for survival, including migratory songbirds, native amphibian, reptile, and fish species, as well as deer, fox, and other small animals.
The wildlife habitat further affirms the significance of protecting this natural area, as conservation of the river corridor provides much-needed habitat for native wildlife. NVCT is proud to safeguard this critical Prince William County jewel and that it will remain forever protected through conservation.
