Shane Hanlon

Shane is a conservation biologist turned science communicator who currently serves as Executive Editor of C&EN BrandLab where he helps scientists and science organizations make their science messaging more accessible. He is formerly Executive Producer and co-host of the Earth and space science podcast Third Pod from the Sun. Shane came to science communication and policy via fellowships with the National Academies and NOAA. In addition to his role at ACS, he is a Senior Producer with the science storytelling organization The Story Collider and instructor at the University of Pittsburgh’s Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology where he teaches disease ecology. He has a B.S. in Ecology and Evolution from Pitt and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Memphis. When not engaged with one of his science and nature extracurriculars, you can find him biking, in a movie theater, or hiking (maybe more like plodding) with his giant dog Tacoma.
