We are thrilled to announce the winners of NVCT’s annual Saving Nearby Nature Photo Contest. We received many incredible submissions from talented local photographers showcasing the diverse beauty of the outdoors. After careful review, we are proud to celebrate this year’s winners!
Spring Renewal
In the “Spring Renewal” category, the first-place winner is Jane Gamble’s “Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher Approaches,” capturing the inquisitive bird perched on a branch of budding flowers.
Second-place goes to Allen Melson’s “Mom & Baby,” showcasing a baby fox gazing up at her mother.
The honorable mention in this category goes to Stephen Olson’s “Young Osprey,” which captures the powerful bird mid-flight, casting an arc of water droplets behind it.
Streams, Creeks, and Water
Stuart Chirtel earns first place in the “Streams, Creeks, and Water” category with “Heron Sashimi Up Close,” a remarkable snapshot of a heron mid-snack, a fish in his mouth.
Stephen Olson’s “Lake Anna Boat House at Sunset,” is the runner-up, expertly working with light and reflection to render this peaceful, idyllic scene.
Eden Solomon’s “Love Birds” earns an honorable mention in this category, portraying two ducks in brilliant blue water, their adjacent swimming patterns creating a heart-shaped ripple.
Smartphone Snaps
In the “Smartphone Snaps” category, the first-place winner is Siofra Zanol’s “Vibrant Rose,” highlighting the intricate beauty of nature up close.
Kimmy Kisher’s “Right of Wings,” is the runner-up portraying a vast blue sky, punctuated with birds in flight.
The honorable mention in this category goes to Christine Callahan’s “What a Web!,” which features a black-and-yellow Argiope spider in the center of its delicate woven home.
People in the Outdoors
Kimmy Fisher’s “Biophilic Reflection,” takes first place in the “People in the Outdoors” category with its showcasing a wide river reflecting a stark sky, and a person standing on a rock in the distance, taking in the view.
The runner-up spot goes to Simone Ichwantoro’s “Old Tradition, New Perspective,” a reflection on iterations of culture throughout time.
Alina Mussie’s “Chronicles of Euphoric Justice,” earns an honorable mention in this category, capturing a serene moment of a young person connecting with the glassy lake and resplendent fall foliage.
